Four years ago...

Evan surprised me and took me to the top of the Space Needle for our fourth wedding anniversary.  My parents baby sat while we enjoyed a nice night out.  The restaurant is in the Space Needle and continually rotates.  Evan even said I could order whatever I wanted, so I got Steak and he got the special catch of the day Salmon

We ordered a molten lava dessert, because that is what we  loved most about our cruise we went on for our honey moon, but it was not very good or molten-y

enjoying what the Seattleites call a sun break.  Notice the football and baseball stadium in the background

Field trip

My dad works for Boeing as an engineer.  I have never visited the History of Flight museum that he always wants to take me to when I visit.  It is the museum all the local kids go to when they have a field trip.  Evan enjoyed it.  I'm glad we got in for free.

Autumn is explosive and I hate hiking

While in Washington we went to my cousin's son's ( I would have just said first cousin once removed, but then no one would know what I was talking about) t-ball game.  Autumn got hungry so I took her to the car to breast feed her.  Then I heard a rumble so I quickly lifted up her brand new dress so it wouldn't get messy.  "Fhew" I thought "that was a close one."  Then I felt something warm on my stomach.  Autumn's mess not only went down my pants, but slipped across my hip and onto the bucket seat in my mom's car.  It took five paper towels to absorb the mess.  I didn't have my diaper bag with me so I took Autumn's dress off of her and wrapped her in a blanket (it was quite chilly) and trudged to the field where the rest of my family was watching the T-ball game.  With my mom and Evan's help we cleaned Autumn up.  Autumn was getting goosebumps so we tried to work quickly and as a result she ended up with this lovely outfit.
We also went for a hike while hanging out with my parents.  I hate hiking.  Don't get me wrong I had lovely company, but as we hiked back to the car I contemplated why it is that I don't like to hike-and it isn't because I'm a sissy.
TOP four reasons I hate hiking
1.  I don't appreciate nature.  This is an unfortunate truth I realized after taking a personality test for a class in college.  I would much rather take a walk around my neighborhood or a stroll through Disneyland.
2.  The drive to the trail head.  OK so maybe I am a sissy, but it seems that whenever I go hiking I have to drive on some crazy windy road to get to the trail head.  I get nauseated doing about anything with motion.  In fact my family teases me and says I get sick from walking-not entirely true, but kinda.
3. People telling me "you can do it".  When I start complaining while hiking I often hear this phrase.  I know I "can do it." It is a matter if I want to or not and I just like to complain so just let me!
4. I'm always lied to.  For example when I was 9 or so we went on hike while on a family reunion.  I was told the hike would be two miles.  I confirmed several times one mile there and one mile back, right? Well when we hit the one mile mark the family decided to continue on.  Since I was only 9 I couldn't walk back to the car and I was stuck hiking longer than I had planned.  Another common lie is being told there would be a cool waterfall.  I've been told this on multiple occasions.  I have yet to see a waterfall (except at Disneyland of course.) Furthermore I am often told "this is an easy hike."  On one occasion of hearing this lie I obliged and went on the hike only to find out my fellow hikers had brought gear with them.  I was not wearing the proper shoes or clothes and I didn't bring any water.  In my mind an easy hike is more of a stroll and does not require any gear.  On this particular hike I was again promised a waterfall (didn't see one) and that the course was flat.  Although it was an easy hike it was NOT flat.  There were some definite elevation changes.

Notice how I am lower than Evan is in this picture.  See NOT flat
Pretty, but no waterfall.
In conclusion, if you would like to go hiking with me I will need a very detailed plan of what the trail looks like, how long it is, and the route to get to said trail before I decide to go or not.  Also Autumn pooped on me yesterday while she was in the Baby Bjorn and I was wearing shorts this time.

Trip to the Seattle

I knew Evan would have a lot of time after his last rotation to the time we would have to move for his intern year.  So during Evan's third year of medical school I started planning out our trip to Europe, then Autumn was born.  So we went to Seattle instead.  As luck would have it we broke the sun with us.  It was very pleasant weather for half of our trip then just regular Washington weather for the rest.  Evan wanted a relaxing vacation so we didn't do much unless you count watching Family Feud, then Lingo, Let's Make a Deal, change the channel to something else while Whammy is on then back for some more Family Feud?  I made a T-shirt quilt with my mom and Evan finally shaved his mountain man beard he grew for his hiking trip with his buddies the week before.

My first Mother's Day

I post A TON of posts of Autumn's "firsts" and now it is my turn.  May 13, 2012 was my first Mother's day as a mother.  My dad bought me an orchid corsage that I wore to church.  Then after church we had a steak dinner and Autumn took a SUPER long nap.  My cousin and his family came over after dinner and we hung out. A perfect mother's day

My kid will never...

I think all of my blog friends have a post titled something like this, once they become a mom.  We all have this idea of how we want our kids to act/not act or how we'll act as a parent/not act as a parent.  I realize my kid will probably scream in Target and will probably have a runny nose, but there are somethings I'm not ready to budge on.  For example, I don't see any reason a 4.5 month old should be watching TV (you don't realized how many screens there are until you are trying to block a little ones view from them, like in the line at Walmart, the airport, the gas station, ect).  Despite my efforts She loves the TV.  I often find her like this.
Autumn also hates tummy time-or rather use to hate tummy time, until I compromised with her and allowed TV watching as long as she was on her tummy.  (yup already bargaining with my 4.5 month old!)

In other news Autumn and I recycled a huge stack of Evan's medical school notes while he was out hiking with his buddies.  I've been waiting 4 years to do that.  It was quite liberating.

Phoenix Children's Museum

We snagged a "culture pass" at the library this morning, for two free tickets to the Phoenix Children's Museum.  I didn't think there would be very much for Autumn, but I was pleasantly surprised by how much she seemed to enjoy herself.  They had a whole area dedicated to children under 3.
Autumn liked this space the best the boxes lit up and made different noises.

Same day, just a different outfit.
Playing in the mini kitchen
Hanging out on the trike.

Mile Stones

The best part of Evan being done with school is he gets to hang out with Autumn and me.  Yesterday (4.30.11)  Autumn rolled over for the first time back to front.  We both watched from the kitchen saying things like, "it looks like she is about to roll over." We clapped.  She cried.  I'm so glad I'm not a military wife.  I'm not sure how they do it, but I don't want to find out.
Seconds after she rolled over for the first time

Evan final spent the rest of his birthday/Christmas gift cards and got surround speakers.

Last Week

Last week Sara's kids came over after school and swim in the pool with Evan while Autumn napped.  Thursday next day we had our first rain in four month, so naturally Evan took Autumn outside to explore.  Then since it was raining we went to the play place at the mall with our nephew Klinton.
