My sister and her kids flew into town a few days before our mom's family reunion.
We took the kids downtown and took a tour via the horse drawn carriage. (Also Olive had a fat lip and chipped tooth courtesy of one of her siblings being too rough. We checked out a brewery with homemade root beer.
Rex was really sweet playing with and helping take care of Olive.
Our library hosted a birthday party for the fictitious character Harry Potter. We dressed up for the costume contest. Ron, Harry and Hermione
Ginny, Ron, Harry, Hermione, Draco, and Herminon's "cat" Crookshanks
Violet was
Tonks and Zora Jane was Dobby the house elf.
Evan was
Professor Snape and I dressed as a death eater Bellatrix Lestrange.
Heather
was professor Trelawney
The only
money I spent one the costumes were these dark mark tattoos (and mine one
stayed on way longer I i wish it would have.)
Then we
headed down to Utah to visit some of Evan's family and my dad's family.
We met up with a couple of my cousins I haven't seen in years at a mall in Salt
Lake. The kids had a good time at the soccer themed play place.
We went to
the Museum of Curiosity with one of my best friends. The museum did not
disappoint.
I reminded
the kids several times that I did not have extra clothes for the kids and to be
careful with the water.
These
highchair/seat things at the water table were awesome and Olive loved it.
She loves playing in the bathtub and pool too.
Violet
disregarded my advice. She literally dunked her buns in a bucket full of
water. Later she poured an entire bucket of water over her head.
She was drenched from head to toe and very cold.
Evan
attempting to be a sloth. Later Autumn held on for 10 minutes. Her
skill and determination drew a crowd of spectators.
I did have
an extra outfit in my bag. Its a good thing I gave the kids a lecture so I
didn't need four extra outfits. Lark is pretty obsessed with this
butterfly dress at the moment. She wears it weather its clean or not.
Maverick
and Autumn had a great time exploring the rope bridges and the stone temple.
We stayed
with my aunt Sandi for a few days. The kids begged and begged to go in
her hot tub.
We went to
one of Evan's cousins wedding reception at his grandma's house.
The kids
played well with each other in the yard.
We were
very fortune to meet up with some dear med school friends and spend the
afternoon with them and their kids.
One of my
kids snatched my phone and took this artsy picture of my parents while we were
visiting my grandparents.
Noah
playing Nintendo while Violet thinks she's playing.
Maverick
and Violet on the rocking horse my grandfather made.
Grandma
and grandpa
We spent
the afternoon at Great-Granma's house. The kids enjoyed graham crackers
dipped in milk.
I made the
kids have a photo shoot on the bridge Evan's grandpa made.
Violet
really enjoyed looking at pictures with Grandma.
Then we
headed off for my mom's family reunion. The first night's activities
included pinatas.
We rock
climbed...
We swam
quite a bit
Some of
the older second cousins did a great job of entertaining my kids. This day they were making friendship bracelets.
Family
picture time!
My family
reminded me all week how much Lark reminded them of me. Also my sister
Heather did her hair all week so she could watch videos on her phone.
Family
Olympics where our very young team lost by a landslide.
Olive
playing on the play set with her cousin.
We took a
canoe out on a very small murky lake. It was very peaceful until Autumn
threw a tantrum when Violet wanted to help row. And by tantrum I mean she
ran off into the marshy area and got mud all over herself and lots of yelling
took place.
Maverick
attempting to fish off the dock. The kids wanted to swim in the water
even though they didn't have their swim suits, hence the reason for Maverick in
his underwear.
I also got
lovingly teased by my cousins for my fanny pack. But it was quite
handy. I didn't lose my phone or keys the entire time we were there.
Alice and
Autumn spent a few days shaving down sidewalk chalk and mixing it with water to
create "paint".
Twinners
It was so
adorable watching Olive and Evan eating protein bars in almost the exact same
way.
Olive and
her second cousin. She kept trying to hug him all week but he was
uninterested in her attempt to show affection.
Another
second cousin very close in age to Olive
Violet
made lots of new friends this trip with her second cousins
Autumn and
Alice sold their "paint" and if they wouldn't have brought in extra
help in the 11th hour resulting in splinting their profits even more they
would have done all right.
Minute to
win it type games carnival style. The kids enjoyed going around to the
different areas and trying to figure out the games.
My cousin
McKay who is about to be a senior let just about everyone (except me) beat him
at tug of war. Autumn thought it was pretty cool that she
"beat" one of the big kids.
I have a
picture of me holding the twins like this with my grandma at the first reunion
they attended. It was much more difficult to hold them this time around.
We taught
Autumn how to play our family card game "Thump Thump"
Impromptu
dance party
On our way
back home we stopped off at the vernal temple
Oh my
cousin made some awesome "Where's Waldo" scavenger hunt/puzzle games
for the kids each afternoon.
We also
went to the Dinosaur quarry and so real dinosaur fossils. The kids didn't think it was as cool as I did.
You forgot to brag about winning the costume contest at the library. Other than that your kids (and all the rest of my grandchildren) are adorable.
