July Fourth Weekend

I called my aunt Thursday night and asked if Evan and I could hang out with her and her family for the weekend of the Fourth of July. She listed off about a dozen things she had going on that weekend in between orders to her friends to put more things in her grocery cart (she was shopping for food for Girls Camp), "SO...is that a yes" I asked. After going back and forth over the next 24 hours of whether or not we should go (apparently I don't do spontaneous very well) we drove the 5 hours and 20 minutes to Alpine, CA.
Now it took an extra 20 minutes to get there because I got pulled over by a highway patrol man. I know! He said I was "weaving." WHAT? to make a long story short he asked me to get out of the car. I did. I stood next to the patrol car while he proceeded to ask me a 100 questions including, but not limited to, "What is your date of birth," "Where are you headed," "where do you work," "where does your husband work," "What year is your car," "when is the last time you had work done on your car," "Is is hot in Arizona." The list goes on, all the while Evan is sitting in the car wondering what is going on. He then tells me that he needs to go look at some "numbers on the car" and goes up to the passengers window and asked Evan a bunch of the same questions. I guess to see if we would say the same things? I'm unsure. So then he didn't even give me a ticket! I guess he was impressed Evan was in medical school. I don't know. Probably one of the scariest things that has ever happened, but thank goodness I brought Evan along...he is one of the luckiest guys I know.
ON TO THE TRIP...Playing Nintendo Wii
I pinned my 8 year old cousin down and forced him to let me play with his gorgeous curly hair.

They were so impressed, poor kids have never seen sparklers before.

Little people...Big owies

My sister-in-law brought her kids up for a weekend visit. We love it when they come. Although this time brought some unexpected events...while Evan was watching the kids the youngest who is 2 1/2 decided to stick his fingers underneath the treadmill which gave him a trip to the Urgent Care.Poor little guy was such a trooper.
Now that is post is so old I can tell you that he visited his primary care doctor who sent him to a plastic surgeon who had to put him under to check out the fingers...and he's going to be OK!!

All Done...for now

Evan took his first set of board exams. I'm just glad it isn't me who has to study for and take the exams. We celebrated with all fruit smoothies from Jamba Juice. Yummy!!!

Get Away

Evan and I took a short trip up to Heber, Utah for Evan's grandpa's 80th birthday bash. On the way we took a quick stop in Saint George, Utah. I thought Evan looked up directions to the hotel and Evan thought I looked up directions to the hotel...So we went to the Mormon Temple where I hear there are very nice people there at the visitor's center. A senior missionary gave us directions and a very nice young lady gave us a tour of the facility and we looked at an art gallery with pioneer depictions. Us on the steps of the Saint George Temple. After we found our hotel we went and saw a dollar movie, "Date Night" and went to dinner at Cracker Barrel. Very disappointed with the food, but the raspberry lemonade was very tasty. The next morning we watched the USA World Cup soccer game that did not disappoint. My boy Landon Donavon pulled through for me. Then we headed up to good old Provo. We spent the rest of the Day at my older sister's house. We got to watch my nephew play with his new swing set, play in his blow up pool, and chase his chicken's around. My baby sister came by for a bit after she got off of work and before she had to go to her second job. Two of my girlfriends from high school also came by for a little visit. And to top off a great time day I got to visit the new location of JDawgs the best eatery in Provo dare I say Utah County?

80th Birthday Bash

Evan's maternal grandfather celebrated his 80th birthday with a big party with the whole family. Luckily Evan was done with his board exams and had a couple days before his rotations started.Evan and his siblings playing "Vegas Showdown" at the games table at the Heber house.
Evan's grandpa is an excellent painter and craftsmen. He built this bench and painted a landscape on the back of the seat.

One the drive home from Utah we saw a big smoke cloud...I wasn't convinced it was just a big cloud...until we got closer

And closer
And so close we thought they would close the roadUntil we drove through the smoke and It felt like how I imagine the end of the world to be...

California

My Grandpa, Richard "Dick" Roberts, passed away May 30, 2010. His funeral was held the following Thursday. It was really nice to see so much of my family there, 14 of my 18 cousins were in attendance. I haven't had anyone close to me die before, so it has been an interesting process, but knowing that I will see him again is very comforting.

Rex at the luncheon after the service. Rex's first time at the beach. He loved it!! Despite this picture, he loved being berried in the sand. We found this pull tab thingy on the lid of the trunk, I guess so if you get stuck in trunk you can get yourself out? Elizabeth wanted to try it out...it works.
Putting my recreation degree to good use-entertaining my cousin's kids in my grandma's yard. We did relay races for about an hour

Saturday was my youngest cousin's baptism. His older brother baptized him and his oldest brother confirmed him. Such a cool experience.
Me and McKayster on his baptism day...what a cutie!

Sewing lessons

Last Sunday Evan had "ACLS" training (still not quite sure what that means, it was just something he had to do before he starts his clinical rotations). This left me home by myself for most of the afternoon so I got out the sewing machine and started sewing a quilt top for Humanitarian Aide. When Evan got home I asked him if he wanted to learn how to sew so he could help me. Needless to say he was reluctant at first, but once he started he didn't want to stop. He has steady hands, perfect for surgery or sewing. He picked it up very quickly and did a great job. We finished it up in no time with me pinning the pieces together and Evan sewing. My Grandma would be so proud!
The final masterpiece!
